If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you know that I love finding rare covers or version of popular songs (see my coverbuzz post from yesteryear).
Give me one reason by Tracy Chapman is probably up there on everyone’s list of “songs I know the words to whether I want to or not”. It has been covered on Idol over the years to the point of nausea (see Jordin Sparks, Chrystal Bowersox and company) but they always usually stay true to the slow, chillout, velvety blues melody of the original.
So imagine my surprise, when I stumbled upon this version of ”Give Me One Reason” by the Miss Tracy Chapman herself, that starts off as you would expect and then rips into a rocked out, super fast version of the original. I couldn’t help but wonder if she’s so tired of hearing it the same way over the last 20 years that she decided to shake things up a bit?
If you’re going to cover this song (Idol contestant take note) this is how it should be done!
